What Our Black Asses Look Forward To in 2024
Welcome to This Black-Ass Life! This week, we want to talk about what we do and do not look forward to in 2024. On the plus side, Abbott Elementary is back, and on the minus side, we’re going to witness an octogenarian and a septuagenarian battle for the White House.
I. The Facts
A few things we anticipate loving or hating on in 2024!
Abbott Elementary is BACK for season 3 in February!
We do not look forward to the American Society of Magical Negroes. We want to give this movie a chance especially because of this stellar cast but for our lead’s awakening to come from the love interest they chose? Oof!
For those of us on the East Coast of the U.S., Spring is on its way to rescue us from the cold. Crisp, sunny days perfect for time outside with yourself and your people.
There are a ton of books coming out from Black authors in 2024.
We look forward to Victoria Monét, Janelle Monáe, and Coco Jones getting their Grammy honors. Most importantly, an award for THE artist, legend, and youngest nominee in history Hazel Monét.
We are certainly not looking forward to this Presidential election year for many, many reasons but the acknowledgment of how essential Black women are to this democracy (?) without any support for Black women tops our lists.
We are looking forward to supporting Simone and Sha’Carri Richardson at the Paris Olympics this year! Hopefully they’ve gotten a handle on that lil bedbug situation.
Speaking of bed bugs, we are looking forward to everything Danielle Pinnovk has to offer.
Am I (Jumoke) the only one really into snow anymore? I’m ready for warmer weather but I love watching the snow blanket the city from the comfort of my heated blanket.
Why does it matter?
We love looking forward to things! And we love hating on things! Join us <3

II. Other Things
Black-ass Hollywood happenings
Jasmine Guy, Keke Palmer, and Storm Reid are Emmy Winners.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph gave a heart-wrenching performance in the Holdovers and Ayo Edebiri stole the show on The Bear, and between them they have Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and an Emmy.
The hottest person you know also won an Emmy Award and was presented it by the LEGEND, Marla Gibs: Niecy Nash-Betts.
Even though she was the biggest star on Fox via Empire, has starred in multiple blockbuster films including most recently in The Color Purple, and is Oscar nominated, Taraji continues to fight for better working conditions for her and artists like her.
Hunter Harris may have the strongest Katt Williams analysis: “Katt Williams has a bob. You have to be deadly serious to cross someone with a bob. Engage at your own risk — you will not recover. You know how the most ignorant person you know always says if you see her in a fight with a bear, help the bear? If you fight with a bob, get your affairs in order. People who wake up early to bump those ends will stand on business every time.”
Quinta achieving her dream being with Tisha and Tichina before her Emmy win will make you tear up.
Our Black-Ass song(s) of the week (Jumoke):
No wahala shall come to us in 2024.
Things we look forward to:
I (Jumoke) look forward to heading to South America to get away from the cold. Yes, I know what I said above but I contain multitudes!
I (Mitu) look forward to all of the above, and a quiet entry into the year.
